Box 65 Waldron, IN 46182 Phone: (765) 525-5265, Fax: (765) 525-5296 Flat Rock Furniture is a leading maker of hand crafted Appalachian furniture. Made in America by skilled craftsman they continue to lead in producing historic designs and new designs for collectors of this venerable American design. For over three hundred years Americans have constructed furniture from tree saplings. These naturally occurring small trees are stunted, from the shade of larger trees in the forest. They commonly are thirty to forty years old with diameters less than six inches. Abundant in supply, their dense wood is perfect for steaming and bending to create perhaps the strongest wood furniture made today. The choice specie of wood for this purpose is Hickory a dense and fibrous wood valued for its strength and durability. Known as nearly indestructible, Hickory Furniture has become prized by collectors who seek examples of early American hand crafts. Since 1986 Flat Rock Furniture has been the preferred maker of Hickory Furniture. Combining craftsmen and modern manufacturing techniques they create a superior quality rustic furniture. With renowned furniture designer Jim Peed they set the standard for rustic furniture design. By combining quality with classic rustic designs, their custom design service and Jim Peed's new designs, Flat Rock Furniture offers more choice and value than any competitors. Flat Rock Furniture is not only found in homes across America but in hotels, restaurants, resorts and private clubs throughout the world. Their broad range of designs, custom goods, fabrics and finish selections allow you to create a setting that is a pleasing, comfortable and a tasteful reflection of your style. FLORIDA Florida Furniture Industries, Inc. went out of business in 2003. I understand from the Chamber of Commerce in Palatka, Florida where the factory was located, that Rooms To Go took over a lot of their inventory. Don't call Rooms To Go though asking for Florida Furniture, everything was simply absorbed into their company and I doubt anyone at a local store level would know what or who you were talking about. Florida played an important role in the industry until they closed shop. It was chartered on August 1,1930 BY Howard L. Gardner, Sr., Fount H. Rion, Sr., and Charles M. Tanner, Jr. They started making cypress outdoor garden furniture including wooden benches, chairs, ornamental fencing and rose trellises. In 1933, with the great depression at its worst, garden furniture was considered a luxury by the consumer. About that time, because of poor sales of garden furniture, Florida Furniture converted the factory to production of kitchen, breakfast room, novelty tables, and chairs. Around 1936 they added bedroom furniture, and by 1942 the line consisted of bedroom, breakfast room, and dinette furniture. In 1942, production of furniture was sharply curtailed in order to devote production capacity to support the War effort. During this period Florida Furniture produced wooden parts for U.S. Coast Guard picket boats, and wooden machinery boxes and ammunition boxes for the U.S. Army. After World War II the company began manufacturing only bedroom furniture and since that time Florida Furniture has been exclusively a bedroom case goods manufacturer and has become well known in the industry for all-wood construction in medium and low price ranges. At their height they employed about 700 in three manufacturing plants and sold to about 2,400 retail furniture stores, distributors, and rental companies in 40 states and Canada. A division of Sharut, Furniture In Motion was developed to meet the ever-changing needs of tomorrow's consumer today. With Furniture in Motion™, Sharut takes their tradition of creating innovative contemporary home furniture solutions to a whole new level. |
